RF technology is nothing new. In fact, it has been around for close to a century already. Radiofrequency sealing is used in the medical industry to seal together materials like PVC, EVA, Saran, and polyurethane to form pressure devices and containers for various uses. For example, medical bags for IV fluids, blood, chemotherapy, enema, ileostomy, and enteral feeding; all of these are made by APPF Incorporated with radio frequency sealing.
How Does RF Sealing Work?
RF sealing uses radio waves directed through two or more layers of plastic. Intense pressure causes molecules to heat up and combine for a more durable seal. Once the seal is complete, the RF energy is turned off, and the tooling keeps the materials together while they cool under pressure. The resulting seal is actually stronger than the materials themselves.
The process of RF sealing is comparable to microwaving your food. In fact, it appears that RF sealing is partly responsible for the development of microwave ovens. Much the same as the microwaves will not heat up every material, neither will RF sealing work for all plastics. Not all plastics can be heated with radiofrequency. In fact, seeing if a plastic heats up in the microwave is a great way to determine if it is a good candidate for RF sealing.
How Well Does Radio Frequency Sealing?
